British Cycling Central Region Team Selection for the Inter-regional Youth Mountain Bike Championships 2018
The Inter-regional MTB championships (IRMTB) have become a bit of a highlight for Central Region youth riders. In 2016 our teams won the overall bronze medal. In 2017 they went one better and won a brilliant silver. In 2018 the region will again be putting a team forward for this challenging and fun event.
Event Information
The dates are 15 and 16 September (need to be able to travel on 14 September, so a day off school is required).
The venue is the 2018 national championship course at Hadleigh.
The Team
The team will comprise four male and four female riders from the Youth A (born 2002-2003) and/or B (born 2004-2005) categories, holding a current UCI license and living and registered with British Cycling as part of the Central region. We will also select one non-travelling reserve for the male and female squads unless directed otherwise by the event organisation. We are expected to travel as a team to and from the event, staying in group accommodation arranged by the organisers.
Selection Criteria
Riders are expected to register their interest in selection with the Team staff by 25 July 2018. Only riders who register their interest will be considered for selection. Selections will be made to find the team that functions best but also possesses individuals with the attitudes and skills expected at this level of competition. Therefore selection will be made by reference to observed performances at the UK National Cross Country Championships, the UK National Cross Country Series and applicable regional events, and to the results obtained at these events. Performances at the National Cross Country Series and regional events to date in 2018 will also be taken into account.
In terms of skills, riders will be expected to be able to perform core skills such as front and rear wheel lifts, hops, wheelies and track stands.
Riders will be expected to demonstrate self-sufficiency, good attitude/discipline & commitment to the team’s performance and moral.
If you would like to be considered, or are a coach or team manager who is aware of a rider who may wish to be considered, please email us to register interest. Please send your email to our coach for this event – Matt Carey (matt@studiolift.com) by 25 July 2018. Please include contact phone numbers, email addresses for you and a parent/guardian and your British Cycling membership number.
Once initial interest is registered riders are expected to respond to emails and make enquiries themselves, with parents being copied in to emails and communications.
Riders do not have to attend any minimum number of selection races. If riders have any questions regarding selection or the event itself please contact Matt Carey (matt@studiolift.com).
Best wishes,
Patrick Kavanagh
