Based at Palmer Park Stadium in Reading, we offer fixed-wheel and free-wheel coaching sessions within an enclosed velodrome. As well as track cycling, we offer coaching in other cycling disciplines, including road racing, cyclocross and mountain biking at various locations throughout the year.

PPV encourages and supports children to partake in racing events locally and further afield. Our rider ability varies from beginners to national and international standards. We are a friendly club run by British Cycling trained coaches.

The club was formed to cater for children aged between 8 to 18 years and now has over 120 members. We are a GO-RIDE club with child welfare officers, and all officials and helpers undergo a compulsory Police Record Check. We have qualified BC cycling coaches  across a range of levels and disciplines, who run all of our sessions and are volunteers.

There are fixed wheel and freewheel training sessions every Saturday morning at the velodrome. The sessions are grouped by ability and open to all members. We have a limited number of road and track bikes in various sizes for members to loan on request. During Spring and Summer we run youth track racing sessions which are open to members of PPV and other youth riders. At appropriate times of year there are also road circuit training sessions based at Newbury Showground, cyclocross training sessions at Palmer Park and mountain biking at multiple locations. For details about our sessions visit Club Sessions.

For PPV members we hold a Saturday Race Series (up to 6 throughout the year) with riders grouped in ability rather than age. There is also an age grouped Club Championship covering: bike handling skills, circuit, track, mountain bike and cyclocross racing for; under 10’s, under 12’s, under 14’s, and under 16’s. Each age group has a Club Champion awarded with a jersey, along with medals and trophies for the top three riders presented at our Club Prize Presentation day in December. All riders that enter one of the race series days receive a prize at the presentation.

All our coaches are passionate cyclists and aim to enable the children to become confident on their bikes in all disciplines that the children choose to participate in. Our coaching is focused on developing the skills to race competently and safely, such as, in close contact. A child’s confidence on the bike often has a knock on effect in other aspects of their lives, for example, developing the correct attitude to meet every day challenges and pressures from school and peers. Primarily we aim for all of the children to love riding, have fun and to support their fellow members.

Regular forthcoming events are published on the Noticeboard.
