A quick reminder of some tips which help keep everyone safe:
1) All riders MUST wear a properly-fitted, undamaged helmet
This should conform to the CE EN-1078 safety standard: look for the sticker with these markings inside. No helmet, no ride.
If a helmet has been in a crash previously, it has done its job and it’s time for a new one.
2) Riders are strongly advised to WEAR GLOVES
Hands are often the first thing to hit the ground in a crash, take a long time to heal and are annoying to be without the use of! The weather is getting warmer, so the need for insulation is reducing, but not the need for protection.
3) WEAR A BASE LAYER beneath your racing jersey. Even when it’s hot.
If a rider hits the deck, a base layer allows the 2 layers to slide past each other and significantly reduces road rash to the back, shoulders etc.
4) Check your bike before every use.
Every rider and parent should learn the standard ‘M’ check as a routine method for checking that the bike is fit for action before any activity.
If your bike is partly dismantled to fit in the car on the way to the session, pay particular attention to re-securing quick-release levers on wheels AND brakes.
Thanks!
