NEW BC Coaching course dates announced : Now’s the time to act!
(…and cheap first aid courses!)

Dear all,

You will know from recent weeks that when many of the coaching team are away taking their own children to races, we are very limited in the sessions that we’re able to run on Saturdays.

Nearly all of the current group of coaches started out by bringing their kids along as members, and were motivated (or had their arms twisted) to give coaching a go. Hardly any were cycling “experts” when they started, and speaking for myself, although I’ve always loved cycling, I knew very little about youth cycle racing at first. But coaching is a hugely rewarding and enjoyable thing to do, you learn a huge amount and it’s a great way to get involved and actively support our riders.

You (and your kids) will get out what you put in to the club: it’s as simple as that.

PLEASE consider making your contribution to the club by training as a coach. British Cycling run a great programme of coaching courses (for which the club, and other bursaries, can help with the cost). Courses can be few and far between, but some new dates have recently been announced.

The current set of dates for the Level 2 Cerificate in Coaching Cycling (our recommended starting point) is listed below, but you will need a DBS check and First Aid certificate before your first course date. Details of eligible First Aid courses are found with the course information.

Coaching bursaries are available from Get Berkshire Active at:

Leigh reports that the the Crescent Centre in Lower Early offers discounted 1st aid courses if you say it’s for PPV. See below, but please check the details to make sure it meets the BC requirements.

First Aiders are another role in which parents can help out, either on Saturdays or at race events such as Omniums and Track League. If you already have a suitable qualification, please let one of the coaching team know, as this would also be very useful and very much appreciated!

Please just ask any of the coaching team if you’d like to know more or think YOU could help.

Thanks,

Matt
