Dear Club members
Amber Joseph, who won our PPV rider of the year award for last year has just won a Silver medal in the Omnium at the Junior Pan-American Track Champs (Amber is eligible to ride for Barbados). Ambers main adversary was a very strong USA rider Summer Moak who had recently rewritten the USA u16 record books for 200, 500 and 2k. As a result Summer won the 2k, 500 and flying lap, but Amber won the Omnium-scratch and elimination. They went into the final points race with Amber 6pts down on Summer. Amber then rode brilliantly to take most of the points, close down the gap and nose into the gold medal place with one sprint to go, but got blocked in on the final sprint, which Summer won, and Summer took the inter-continental
title by just 1pt.
Amber also raced in the Pan-Am Jun Women’s Scratch Final and took 4th and in the standalone 500 Final and placed 8th.
I’m sure there will be a post on Facebook when she gets back if you want to add your congratulations. A few pictures can be seen on the Barbados Cycling Union Facebook page.
